I have been bombarded with this question ever since I got married 5 months back. to this wonderful woman .At one point I was so sick of hearing this question that I so wanted to slap each one who asked me that question. But then I realized (this is the realization of a married man ) that these were questions from the skeptics.

Anyways, so after having been asked this question by the auto driver at the corner of my street, the guy who sells me dvds, by all my friends, people I have met on social media sites, long lost acquaintances, relatives and having smiled through all those questions or laughing through them, here I was driving to work listening to this city fm channel where the topic of discussion for that day was husbands who get beaten by their wives.

I was truly shocked(Male Chauvinist that I am, further If you ask me only men should do all the beating, Beating up wife, beating the meat, beating the heat(beer drinking ba), beating the children etc etc.) But these days with all these feminists crying from the top of Saravana Stores in T. Nagar asking for equal rights and husbands who have to wait endlessly while they (the women) shop and people like Lalu fighting against the women’s bill being passed because he wants to further divide the women based on caste and religion. Yes people, this has now gone all the way to the parliament. And this battle is being fought by women who think they will soon gain the upper hand.Whattay comedy!!!

So all you dumb ass Women(feminists) and men(male chauvinists, like me) please realize that gender is just because nature thought it would make life easier and of course that 2 times 2 is 4. Duality at work. It is there in plain view in hindu mythology. Brahma the creator will be a no one without Saraswati the goddess of knowledge, Vishnu the upkeeper will be begging on the streets without his wife Lakshmi the goddess of wealth and ofcourse Shiva the destroyer will be powerless and be unable to do his cool cosmic dance without Shakti the goddess of power.

So man without woman is equally incomplete as woman without man. Now, coming back to the question, So how is married life? Friends Nandhini has completed me as much as I have completed Nandhini.

If you are wondering who these skeptics are, Skeptics, are people who have been watching too many bad Hollywood movies like my pal from a neighbouring area, like this guy who claims to have made out with every forty second girl in town reason, he is learning the women’s psyche or another buddy who thinks marriage is all about sex or this guy who thinks you get a great sum of money as dowry and that the groom has to sell his soul.Wait guys your time will come. Then we get to sing “Shine on you crazy Diamond”

Till then stop asking me what married life is like. It is pure BLISS!!!

A Shy smile, a twinkle in the eye gave up the fact that this is a fun loving girl. She did not have much to say. I did not have much to say either. Funny that we hardly spoke to each other when we first met at the temple (now we cant stop talking to each other.) We invariably interrupted each other when we spoke.

So there we were two strangers who had never met before standing in the shadows of the temple and trying to say something to each other. The last time I was tongue tied was when I was born, with this condition called Ankyloglossia.(tongue tied) I was actually wondering what was the ice breaker I used to start the first conversation (Just spoke to Nandhini to check with her ) I asked her “So which school did you go to?” and she says VSKD School and I say “Ok” like I know where the school is. (Funny me!)

Still no question from her… So I throw the next question at her “So what do you do?” I half expected her to say that she is a scientist who is researching on molecular physics but I knew that she has finished her MSc in Physics and she is at home, and she replies ” I love printing designs on sarees” and I notice that she is not very comfortable standing and she is fidgeting around with her feet. So bang come the next question “”Are you feeling hot? Are your feet getting burnt?” She is a bit annoyed with that question which is taken over by a slight sign of amusement. We are actually standing in the shade of the temple’s gopuram.

Then I am cool with talking to her now or so I think but still it is only me who is talking. She is like just standing there looking nervous. And I ask her the question that no one ever asks a nervous person “Are you feeling Nervous? Dont worry I will not gobble you!!!” and I continued with my rants of how I studied BSc Physics for a year in Sivakasi in Iyya Nadar Janaki Ammal College and of how I ran away from there. So I thought it is now time to shift gears and take it to the next level…

“Can we go out to Bell Hotel for lunch?” and she is in thought for a while undecided and stunned by the question. “Yes Sure, I will let my parents know and we will all go out for lunch” But the question running in my head was “Why WHy WHY WHY WHY???????” Why can’t I just go out with her and not her entire family? Simple questions of a city bred guy. But Nandhini Oh man the flutter in her eyes, her dimpled chin…I am getting floored again…

There is a saying in Tamil “Kalyanam Panni paaru… Veeta Ketti Paaru…” I don’t know who said it but I will tell you this. It is one of those proverbs which is so damn true. Wedding planning and getting married are one of those things which will test your patience, the strength of your relationship and also show what friends and family will do to help you.

“Kalyanam Panni paaru… Veeta Ketti Paaru…”

Several people have been listening to my rantings. I am tired of so many things and so many people already. I have ended up being ticked off with a few friends and right now I really don’t care. I am being bumped from several quarters and the time is short. Buddies if you ain’t helping me it is perfectly fine but I don’t expect friends to be troubling me.

Now I am waiting for my wedding to get over so I can start planning for my dream home…
